A ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Championship bout between current champion Superlek Kiatmuu9 and Elias Mahmoudi was expected to headline the event. However, Mahmoudi withdrew from the bout due to rib injury. Superlek was instead to face Takeru Segawa at ONE 165 on January 28. As a results, a featherweight bout between Shamil Gasanov and Oh Ho-taek was promoted to main event status.
A bantamweight Muay Thai bout between former ONE Bantamweight Champion John Lineker, who making his Muay Thai debut against Liam Harrison was scheduled for this event. However, Harrison suffered a knee injury and the bout was scrapped.
After a thrilling 2023, ONE Championship is ringing in the new year with an epic slate of blockbuster events, beginning with ONE Fight Night 18 on Prime Video. The event broadcasts live in U.S. primetime from the world-famous Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, January 12.
In the headline attraction, two featherweight MMA finishers collide in a pivotal bout that could further their ONE World Title aspirations. With a 100 percent finishing rate, #4-ranked contender Shamil Gasanov looks to hold down his spot in the rankings and get closer to the coveted ONE Featherweight MMA World Title.
But standing in his way is the dangerous knockout and submission specialist in Oh Ho Taek. The South Korean has seven finishes out of nine wins, and he’s looking to use Gasanov as a springboard into the featherweight rankings.
