The Flyweight and Light Heavyweight division championships will be at stake on Friday, September 29 at the UWC 48 event to be held at the Entram Gym facilities in Tijuana, Baja California.
The 125-pound title has been one of the most active in the recent 12 months of Ultimate Warrior Challenge Mexico (UWC) while the 205-pound title will return to action after years of inactivity.
“Normally we work to have a championship at stake in each event, but this time there will be two, one that is the most active this year while the other we are going to reactivate for the first time this decade. We have had nine championships in our history, some with greater activity than others, but since the beginning of the year one of our objectives was to give everyone a chance, which is why the Semi-Complete returns,” said Alejandro Islas.
The UWC president explained that the 125-pound belt has already been in action twice so far in 2023: February 24 and May 26, and it will be the ninth time it is in play.
While the Flyweight Championship is one of the youngest of the company (it debuted on May 17, 2014), the Light Heavyweight Championship is one of the original UWC championships, starting its history on July 18, 2009.
David “Chango” Mariscal (11-1-1) faced Miguel “Mago” Pardiñas (6-2-0) at UWC 3 for the 205-pound belt, when both were undefeated in their careers and the victory went to Marshal.
“There is a lot of history in both championships, the Mosca, which is one of the newest in the company, has already had six champions and is one of the most fought in our post-quarantine stage. While the Semi-Complete has only had one monarch in the figure of Mariscal, one of the legends of the AMM (Mixed Martial Arts) not only in Baja California but in the entire country,” Islas added.
During the week, the names of the four participants in the main fights of UWC 48 will be announced, where five other professional fights will also take place.
As in the events at the Fausto Gutiérrez Moreno Auditorium, the actions at Entram Gym will be sanctioned by the Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission (AMM) of Tijuana.
