How come HDTV rips have better quality than Web rips? I come from the mp3 scene so I don't know anything about video encoding but it would seem to me like web rips which come directly from the source would have 1:1 quality whereas tv recorded videos would present at least some kind of loss of information. I ask this simply out of curiosity, all rips are great so far

Hi there HDTV is a recording from a HD broadcast. The quality is usually very close to the broadcast quality. Typically the quality is quite good. WEB-DL is a web downloaded copy from an internet online streaming service with the quality same as the streamed one. Sometimes you just see WEB and that is usually same as WEB-DL. WEBRip is usually a re-encoded version of the WED-DL. The main reason the HDTV release sometimes "looks better" is usually the FPS being 50 or 60 instead of 25 which is the typical FPS of a WEB-DL.

Look I watch these on my computer, I have one of those Eizo badass monitors and I use the Madshi video renderer with possibly the most potent algorithms, and I would swear it's not just the framerate, it's as if mostly the HUD but also everything else looks a little more pixelated at times. I don't know, maybe it's just me XD Anyway, thanks.

Yes that is perfectly possible. The broadcast in HD quality might be higher quality then the web version.

web-dl is normally alot lower bitrate aswell, with a HDTV rip you can record at any bitrate you want, web-dl you are limited by the source, webrip is a screen cap of a stream.
HDTV is also 50 or 60 fps, webdl normally 25 or 30
