CLARIFICATION

Scene (and other releasers of material) has followed Wikipedia for over a decade. So Wikipedia kind of rules what the event name and number should be. Its not feasible to go back and change ALL the events in the past to have new numbers. It would be madness.

So our choices are:

1. Continue to follow Wikipedia event naming structure:
UFC PPV has just a number in the order the PPV are broadcast. UFC Fight Nights have a number in the order the events where broadcast, except when the main card is broadcast on ESPN or ABC (not ESPN+), then they get a number in the order of ESPN/ABC broadcast events.

2. Use the UFC official event name. For example:
UFC Fight Night Smith vs. Teixeira
or
UFC Fight Night Jacksonville Smith vs. Teixeira

or possibly
UFC Fight Night 2020 Jacksonville Smith vs. Teixeira.

3. Use the date. For example:
UFC Fight Night 2020 05 14 Smith vs. Teixeira

Keeping it Fight Night 171 makes the most sense. Avoids confusion in the future when/if corona is a distant memory! Shame the UFC dropped the numbering so we have no official reference - although I do like the power of being able to decide ::cheers::

Thanks for your input guys! In the end I guess I will have to try to find some kind of consensus between what all other sites use and what works best for us... Time will tell.

Oh man, I hated how they introduced the whole UFC on [INSERT]. It was so much simpler when everything was just Fight Night. Confuses the hell out of me.

Even though I hate it, I think it's best to stick to what it's 'offically' named, even though it is a punish to organise.

Yeah I think the Fight Island events will be updated and renamed when the fight cards are updated with the broadcast information. UFC Fight Island sounds cool to me he he.
