UWC 44: Prototipo vs. El Rey is a mixed martial arts event promoted by Ultimate Warrior Challenge Mexico and will take place on May 28, 2023 at the Entram Gym in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Fight Card

Main Card (UFC Fight Pass)

Braian González vs. Carlos Puente Jr. 125 lbs Flyweight Championship
Alan Martinez vs. Yahir Ramírez 125 lbs
Mauricio Eguiluz vs. Daniel Vega 145 lbs
Hugo Oyarzún vs. Ivan Maya 155 lbs
Cecilia Ulloa vs. Damara Vargas 117 lbs
Eliu Trujillo vs. B. Perez 135 lbs

The Ultimate Warrior Challenge Mexico (UWC) show will have as its main course the first defense of the 125-pound sash by Braian “Prototipo” González (11-2-0), from San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina.

The albiceleste captured the scepter just on February 24 of this year at the Entram Gym facilities, in what has been an elusive division since only one champion has been able to defend successfully.

Obvio González will try to break that curse by facing Carlos “El Rey” Puente Jr. (8-7-0), from El Centro, California, who makes his debut with the longest-serving Mexican company in professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

“We are always looking for the best possible fights for our champions, and the truth is that we had not looked at the detail of the 125-pound defenses, since we have had six champions to date.

“And we also know the importance of the Flyweight division at the national level, thanks to the first two-time Mexican Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) champion, Brandon Moreno, who debuted with us years ago,” said Alejandro Islas.

The president of UWC explained that this meeting will be the stellar duel of the part of the show to be broadcast by UFC Fight Pass, authorized and sanctioned by the Tijuana Box and AMM Commission.

The champions prior to González have been: Iván “Niño Demoledor” López (14-6-1), the Frenchman Antoine Hidrio (5-3-0), Jesús Aguilar (8-2-0), and the Brazilians Soslenis “Grilinho ” Carvalho (15-14-0) and João “Mascarado” Camilo Neto (8-7-0).

The only one to have accomplished the successful defensive feat was Aguilar, of Ensenada, Baja California, who wrested the scepter from Hidrio before beating Edgar “Pitbill” Chairez (10-4-0)
in his first defense before leaving on Baja Californian to UFC.

So there will be two questions at stake: if González can break the losing streak that the champions have had; or if Puente Jr. manages to follow tradition and snatch the sash in the first attempt to defend the monarch.
