Background
Cuban Lazaro Dayron (5-0) will put his undefeated record on the line versus his most experienced competition to date, United Kingdom’s Nathan Greyson (6-4) in this Saturday’s main event in a battle at 135 pounds for CG 2023 April 1: Dayron vs Greyson.
Also, Melissa Amaya (5-0) will go toe-to-toe against the entertaining and heavy striker Gillian Noll (3-2) and Mexico’s Jair Perez returns to la jaula against Venezuela’s Genier Panagos (7-3).
Dayron vs Greyson
Dayron is coming off a victory back in September against Alberto Rodriguez in a fight he dominated and won by way of unanimous decision. He has two victories by way of knockout, so the power lies in his hands. However, Dayron, who trains with the Goat Shed Academy in Miami, also has superb wrestling.
A top ranked wrestler in his country, he trained with the Oklahoma University wrestling team before becoming a professional fighter.
On the other side, Greyson returns to action after losing two fights in 2019. He took some time off to focus on his business. His recent fight was a defeat against former Copa Combate winner Frans Mlambo in June 2019.
He is heavily respected for his striking power and can get anyone off guard with is speed. The former UK champion is looking forward to bring his skills to la jaula for the first time.
Dayron will exchange with Greyson to start the fight, but if the Cuban feels a little off he may settle on his wrestling and go for a ground and pound victory. As for Greyson, he should keep Dayron at bay land body shots and work combinations when possible.
Amaya vs Noll
Amaya has been evolving as an all-around fighter right in front of fans eyes. She continues to show her confidence in her striking as she has taken on heavy strikers Naomi Tataroglu and Jessica Ortega. Her ground game has been impressive as it was shown in her most recent victory against Alitzel Mariscal. Amaya submitted Mariscal by way of arm triable choke.
But this time around, she is facing Noll, an entertaining athlete who shows no quitting. Hit her once and she’ll smile and return the favor with more shots.
This will be an entertaining fight as Noll will not slow down. However, Amaya is very skilled and technical. Her composure will be key. Expect a fight with both women giving it their all.
Perez vs Panagos
Perez was on a four-fight win streak after losing to Justin Vazquez late last year. The Mexican with a strong base in wrestling trained both in his native country and the United States to prepare for this fight.
He said he sharpened some of his skills and is looking forward to displaying it in la jaula.
Venezuela’s Penagos will make his second appearance for Combate Global. He faced a Jose Ferreira last time around and fell short losing by way of technical knockout as he was put in a ground and pound position making it difficult to overcome.
Perez is hungry for a win, and if he does his homework, he will be able to expose Penagos flaw, which is on the ground. He has the wrestling to do so.
As for Penagos, footwork, keeping Perez away and working combos will benefit him but he can’t come close as Perez will go for the takedown.
